Today's Rant is on Roleplaying on MU*'s/MOO/whatever.
Why do so many people feel the need to impose rules on RP? Why are some so anal about the whole deal? Pose length, pose style, how you deal with others in the room and more all come under the auspices of the RP Police.
Why? Why not simply say 'This is how I like my RP' and then not RP with others who don't fit your style? Why bitch someone out because they pose 3 lines instead of eight? Why get angsty at someone because they pose waving to you as you enter the room and you are just passing through? Why tell someone they've got the 'rules' wrong when they do PSI poses or whatever?
Sheesh people. Get over it!
(Nope, this isn't aimed at anyone here.)

Posing...
Date: 2003-03-12 02:34 am (UTC)One of the games that I play on won't impress a candidate on a Pern setting if they have 'thoughts' in their poses, or if they pose too long, or basically, if they show any sort of pose style other than the one that the game tries to impose. Me, I impressed Bronze, and then proceeded to pose the way that I wanted to pose.
It's the little victories that count, hey? ;)
Seriously, I can't see why people don't like poses that don't fit into the 'mold' that they have. I'm all for individualism, myself. If one person poses some thought, that's great. If they pose short... That's fine too, but don't expect me to RP with them any longer than I have to. Just like in a supermarket, you buy what you like, and perhaps try something new every once in a while. And if you don't like it, then fine.
But the MUSHes around shouldn't say that they like diversity... when they dictate how a person has to pose. If a University dictated how a person has to write... Would there be any new authors, ever? We'd be churning out masses of the same kind of writer each year. It's what makes us different that counts.
And so ends my little rant. ;)
