Segregation
Sep. 5th, 2003 08:55 amOn the local Gay/Lesbian group I'm on someone was bemoaning the lack of Gay/Lebian clubs in Canberra (club here meaning something like a nightclub/pub/whatever). They made it clear that they wanted a Gay/Lesbian only club.
And I have to ask 'why?'. I don't really want to go to a place that is 'Lebian only' or 'Gay only' or even 'Gay/Lebian only'. Rather I want to go to a place that is accepting of whatever you are be it Gay, Lesbian or (gasp) heterosexual.
The problem as I see it, is that the moment you start segretating, people begin to draw lines. I've talked to any number of friends who have had problems with Lesbian only lists and places (I don't know many Gay people so I have no experience there). As an example,oOne has a transgendered partner, whom a Lesbian group won't accept as female, and the group has openly stated that my friend is therefore Bi rather than Lesbian and therefore...
It can get very silly very quickly.
So again I ask 'why?'. I don't want segregation. I want tolerance.
We seem to have two places here in Cantberra like that. Tilley's is a pub/cafe type. And The Cube, which is a nightclub type place. I've never been to the Cube so I don't really know how good it is.
Tilley's, at least, while being mainly Gay/Lesbian is accepting of pretty much anyone. That, to me, seems as close to perfect as we get in this world.

Sep. 5th, 2003 07:48 pmWell...I now have a graphics tablet, a Wacom. It's quite cool. I'm no brilliant artist but it's fun, and works well as a mouse too, so you don't have to change back and forth.
My first attempt is here.
No, it's not brilliant, but it was fun to do that on the screen :) Oh, and the idea for that cartoon has to go to one of my workmates.
