We're seeing legitimate consumers being hurt by an unthought out knee jerk reactions of an industry that doesn't understand it's own consumers.

We now have copy protected CD's. What does this mean? It means that we have CD's that violate the standard for CD's and therefore can't technically be called CD's. It means have CD's that will work in standard CD players, but may well break your PC/car stereo/fancy CD/DVD player. We have CD's that you can't make legitimate copies of.

What do I mean by that last?

Many of my CD's I have ripped onto my Hard Drive, because my computer is how I listen to the music. I own the CD, I want to listen to the music, so I make a copy onto my HD and the CD goes back into the CD rack.

Or I make a full copy of the CD onto another to go into my car. If my car is broken into, then I only lose a copy of the CD, not the full CD.

Or I make a remix CD with single tracks from CD's I own.

All legitimate uses. None of which are possibl with copy protected CD's.

Actually, that's not true. There is software that will break copy protection. However it's not necessarily easily available to the casual user. Which means the casual user is the one that is screwed over.

The ultimate irony here comes in the form of the latest Iron Maiden CD. It's copy protected. Yet illegal copies are already on the net for download. So can someone please tell me how inconveniencing paying consumers is helping stop the flow of illegal copies of CDs?

THANK YOU ~_~ I'm glad someone shares my opinion on this. I do the same things you do--I like to rip songs from my CDs to my computer. I have no intention of making copies to sell or something stupid like that. But blah. Anyway. Yeah.

I have PMS, I'm bitchy *sweatdrop* Sorry ^^;;

God Forbid!

God Forbid that the bloated incomes of all those executive should be ripped off of anything. I mean, hey, if someone rips off your CD from your car then you should /have/ to buy a new one! How else can they afford all those custom made clothes and toilt seats?

(me, bitter?)
