Strange Days Have Found Us

Is anyone else having problems with the oggs produced by livejournals phone posts? I've just tried both the KDE Media player and XMMS and both make it sound choppy, metallic and unintelligible. I've tried this on three phone posts so far and they all have the same problem. I've never had an ogg do this to me before.

Try downloading Winamp - that's the only player I found it would work on.

Ummm, 'fraid I don't use Linux or know much about it, so I can't help you out there!

That's cool. I use WinAmp at home, but it seems anytime anyone does a phone post I'm at work, so I'm stuck with those two (XMMS is supposed to be a WinAmp clone, but I guess that doesn't go right down to the codec level)

I think it's more the OGG encoder that Livejournal uses than the decoder XMMS uses. I've used Red Hat 9 and Mandrake 10 and never had a problem playing OGGs. I use them over MP3 any day.

Funny thing is that I use OOGs for everything else. This is the only time I've ever had an issue with an OGG. Oh well :)
